Official accused of assaulting two female footballers arrested in Goa

All India Football Federation executive committee member Deepak Sharma was arrested by Goa police on Saturday for allegedly assaulting two female players, an official said.

Two footballers of Himachal Pradesh Khad FC, who play in the second tier of the Indian Women’s Football League (IWL) here, claimed that club owner Sharma broke into the hotel on the night of March 28 Enter their rooms and physically assault them.

“AIFF executive committee member Deepak Sharma was summoned for questioning on the same day following a formal complaint. He was arrested by the Mapusa police on charges including causing hurt, use of force against women,” Deputy Police Chief Minister Sandesh Chodankar told PTI.

“He will be detained overnight and will be remanded before court on Sunday,” said Inspector Shitakant Naik of Mapusa police station.

Meanwhile, GFA president Caetano Fernandes told PTI that the association helped the victims lodge complaints with the Mapusa police station.

Sharma is also the general secretary of Himachal Pradesh Football Association.
