Officer narrowly escapes after SUV chases his car during patrol in Punjab

The occupants of the SUV, suspected to be linked to the mining mafia, fled the scene.

Ambala:

A suspicious SUV allegedly tried to deliberately hit the car of the Naranggarh sub-divisional magistrate while he was on patrol checking for illegal mining activities in the area, officials said on Sunday.

The SUV allegedly chased the SDM’s car and tried to ram the vehicle twice at high speed, but the officer narrowly escaped.

The occupants of the SUV, suspected to be linked to the mining mafia, fled the scene.

The incident took place at 1 am on the night of March 27-28 and an FIR was lodged in the matter on Saturday, police added.

Notably, two such inspections and raids were conducted recently to check illegal mining in rivers in Narayingal district.

Based on a complaint by the SDM security guard, the Naranghar police on April 6 registered a case against the owner and driver of the SUV under various sections of the IPC, including obstructing government work and attempt to murder.

According to the FIR, SDM Yash Jaluka, his security guard and three others, including the driver, were on patrol in a private car when an SUV started following them.

Reports said they tried to intercept the SUV near a bridge in Toka Sahib Gurudwara village, but the occupants of the SUV tried to deliberately ram their car at high speed and then fled the scene.

About two years ago, a police officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Surender Singh, was allegedly run over by a dump truck during a crackdown on illegal quarrying in Nu district.
