Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on Monday that each country needs to have its own artificial intelligence infrastructure to take full advantage of its economic potential while protecting its culture.
“You can’t allow other people to do this,” Huang told the World Government Summit in Dubai.
Huang’s company’s stock market value has soared to $1.73 trillion as it dominates the high-end artificial intelligence chip market. He said his company is “democratizing” the use of artificial intelligence due to rapid improvements in its computational efficiency.
“The rest is entirely up to you taking the initiative, activating your industry and building the infrastructure as quickly as possible.”
He said fears about the dangers of artificial intelligence are exaggerated, pointing to other new technologies and industries such as automobiles and aviation that have been successfully regulated.
“Some people are interested in scaring people out of this new technology, demystifying it, encouraging others not to do anything with the technology and rely on them to do it. I think that’s a mistake.”
Following a new round of U.S. restrictions on some of its artificial intelligence chips in October, Nvidia said in November that it was working with customers in China and the Middle East to obtain export licenses for new products that comply with U.S. regulations.
The CEO did not address the issue Monday.
Nvidia will announce its fourth-quarter earnings on February 21.
