Friday’s death toll Attack on Moscow Concert Hall has increased to 93 people. Meanwhile, 11 people were arrested on Saturday for their involvement in the attack, Russian media reported.
According to reports, four “terrorists” were among those arrested.
According to reports, attackers stormed into a concert hall in western Moscow and opened fire on the crowd, killing several people.
The Islamic State group released a statement on an affiliated social media channel claiming responsibility for the attack.
The attack, Russia’s worst in years, left the concert hall in flames and its roof collapsing.
Russian media said the head of Russia’s Federal Security Service told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday that four of the 11 people arrested were directly involved in the attack.
Shortly after the incident, a convoy of emergency vehicles was seen gathering outside the ruins of Krokus Town Hall, a shopping mall and music venue that seats more than 6,000 people in Krasnogorsk on the western edge of Moscow.
Friday’s attack came days after President Vladimir Putin consolidated his power with a landslide victory in a carefully orchestrated election.
The attack was Russia’s worst in years and came as the country’s fighting in Ukraine entered its third year.
Videos widely shared on social media showed gunmen firing at civilians at close range at the venue.
The roof of the theater, where people gathered on Friday to watch a performance by Russian rock band Picnic, collapsed in the early hours of Saturday as firefighters spent hours extinguishing a blaze that broke out during the attack.
