Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vice-captain Nitish Rana is hopeful that star batsman Shreyas Iyer will be free from injuries and lead the team in IPL 2024. Iyer, who missed IPL 2023 due to injury, arrived at KKR training camp with a back problem. There are rumors that Iyer may miss the first few games and Rana will lead KKR. In Iyer’s absence, Rana stepped up to lead KKR. However, the two-time champions failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished seventh in the standings.
Amid Iyer’s fitness issues, Rana hopes the star batsman can lead the team throughout the season.
“Shreyas has returned to the team and is in very good shape. Of course, he has had health issues in the past and we can’t take anything for granted. I hope I don’t have to take on that responsibility again because we want Shreyas Si leads in all competitions.”Having said that, if I show up
It’s time to put on the captain’s belt again, and I’m ready. I was named captain last year and that was the most important thing for me. Even though we didn’t achieve everything we wanted, it was the best experience for me,” Rana told TOI.
Even though KKR finished seventh last season, Rana revealed that there was great optimism in the dressing room that the two-time champions could go all the way this time around.
“This time, our team is very motivated and you can feel it in the dressing room. We have a determination to win, which was not so strong last year. Everyone is thinking about the trophy,” he added.
