Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday kicked off the campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by launching development projects worth over Rs 19,100 crore at a rally in Bulandshahr in western Uttar Pradesh.

This election rally comes just three days after the grand ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at the new Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Addressing the public in Bulandshahr, PM Modi referred to news reports which claimed that ‘the Prime Minister will sound the election bugle for the upcoming elections’ and said, “Modi blows the bugle of development. Modi does not need to sound the election bugle, the public does it for Modi.”

The Prime Minister targeted the opposition parties over the ‘false promises’ of ‘Garibi Hatao’ and said, ‘For a long time after independence, people kept raising slogans of ‘Garibi Hatao’ and some people kept telling lies in the name of social justice. But the poor saw that only a few people became rich and their politics benefited from it…But the situation is changing in the country, (PM) Modi is serving you with full sincerity…”

Before reaching Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi also addressed first-time voters on National Voters’ Day through video conferencing.

“When I meet prominent world leaders, I am not the only one who meets them, but 140 crore Indians are with me. Today, the Indian passport is looked upon with pride across the world,” he said.

PM Narendra Modi further said, “Today people talk not about corruption but about credibility; Success stories, not scams. Earlier, India was in the list of five fragile economies. But today India is the fifth largest economy in the world. In the coming years, India will become one of the top three economies of the world.”

However, the party had won all the seven assembly seats of Bulandshahr – Anupshahr, Dibai, Khurja, Bulandshahr Sadar, Sayana, Shikarpur and Secunderabad – in the 2022 assembly elections in UP.

Meanwhile, the opposition SP and Congress have also focused on western UP in an attempt to garner the support of Muslims, Jats and Dalits to challenge the BJP.
