The Indian Premier League (IPL) has unearthed a new gem as young pace star Mayank Yadav performed brilliantly in Lucknow Supergiants’ win over Kings XI Punjab on Saturday. Mayank, who regularly bowled over 150 kmph, was the man of the match in LSG’s win. After his memorable game against Punjab, the 21-year-old pacer spoke about the bowlers who have inspired him over the years. Surprisingly, Mayank only goes by one name and that is former South African star Dale Steyn.

“There is only one fast bowler I look up to, Dale Steyn. He is my idol. I look up to him so much,” Mayank said after the match.

Mayank is not just obsessed with fast bowling. The young man also loves jets, airplanes, superbikes and rockets.

“Even in everyday life, speed makes me excited and excited. Things like rockets, airplanes and superbikes excite me. In my childhood, I used to love jets, so you can say I got it from there inspired,” he said.

The youngster also had a chance to play in the IPL last year, but it didn’t happen due to injury.

“Injuries are part of a fast bowler’s life. I also missed the IPL last season due to injuries.”

As the broadcaster points out, here are Mayank’s incredible per-delivery figures (in km/h) of 3/27 in 10 overs, in which he dismissed Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma, Thus turning the tide in Lucknow’s favour, Bairstow and skipper Shikhar Dhawan put on a century-long partnership in the 200-run chase. He took home the “Man of the Match” award.

first round:147, 146, 150, 141, 149, 147 (km/h)

During his 24-ball spell, Mayank crossed the 150 kmph mark nine times. His first ball of the second over, 155.8 to be precise, was one of the fastest overs in IPL history and the fastest in IPL 2024. The fastest delivery in IPL history was bowled by Australia’s Shaun Tait, who clocked a speed of 157.7 km/h in 2011 between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals.
