Noida: Man dragged from bike stabbed to death; 2 held

A Noida resident was allegedly stabbed with a knife by two men over an old enmity and then died after his legs were tied with a rope to a motorcycle and dragged on the streets, police officials said on Sunday.

The accused couple were arrested, but when they allegedly tried to escape from police custody, an encounter broke out in which both of them were shot, he said.

The dramatic incident of a man being dragged on the streets of Baraula village under Sector 49 police station area took place on Saturday evening.

A short purported video of the incident also surfaced on social media. “The victim Mehndi Hasan was brought to the police station in an injured condition by two youths around midnight. He was taken to the hospital where he died during treatment,” said Additional DCP Noida Manish Kumar Mishra.

“The two who brought the injured person to the police station were identified as Anuj and Nitin. Anuj told the police that Mehndi Hasan had stabbed his father in 2018 in an attempt to kill him. A case was also registered in this regard,” Mishra said.

Anuj further told the police that after that episode, Hasan used to taunt him and make comments at him, which often left him angry, the officer said.

“Frustrated with the situation, he attacked Hasan with a knife with the help of his brother Nitin on Saturday,” Mishra said. Police immediately arrested both the accused.

During the recovery of the weapon used in the crime, at around 5 am on Sunday morning, the accused took the police to a culvert in Baraula.

“Anuj and Nitin attacked the police party accompanying them. In retaliation, the police team opened fire, injuring both the accused,” Mishra said.

He said that both the accused were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police, in a separate FIR registered after the encounter with the officers, have charged the accused with IPC sections 307 (for attempt to murder), and 224 (resistance to lawful apprehension), besides a murder case for the murder of Hasan. A case has also been registered under. Said.
