Union minister and BJP candidate Nitin Gadkari from Nagpur on Tuesday released his own “manifesto” promising to create 100,000 jobs in the next five years if re-elected. and ranks the urban constituencies of Maharashtra among the top five cities for development and cleanliness.

The 66-year-old senior BJP leader, who was speaking at a press conference after releasing the document three days before the polls, also described his work as an MP over the past decade.

Mr. Gadkari stressed that in his third term, he will strive to make Nagpur “sundar and swachh” (beautiful and clean) and make it among the best in the country in terms of development, sanitation and hygiene Among the top five cities.

The former BJP chief said he would help unauthorized slum dwellers get ownership rights, regularize them and help them build new houses with help from the state and central governments.

The union minister said he has started work in a slum area of ​​the city and given ownership rights to 500 to 600 houses.

Mr. Gadkari said that 100 gardens will be constructed in different areas of the city, including existing gardens that will be renovated.

He noted that modern markets for vendors, farmers, grain wholesalers and oil merchants would come up at dedicated locations in the city, which would also help reduce traffic congestion.

Mr. Gadkari said initiatives such as setting up of truck terminal, metro gauge lanes, new four-lane railway tracks and logistics park in Nagpur will be among his priorities.

The Union Minister assured that 100,000 new jobs will be created in Nagpur and 500,000 jobs in Vidarbha region by 2029.

He promised that there will be no water shortage in the second capital of Maharashtra by 2070.

Mr Gadkari said 25 lakh orange saplings would be planted in homes in the city, which is famous for the popular fruit.

The Union minister contested his first Lok Sabha polls from Nagpur in 2014 and defeated Vilas Muthemwal, a seven-time MP from the city, by a margin of 2,84,000 votes (Vilas Muttemwar), who ultimately won.

In 2019, Mr. Gadkari retained his seat by defeating Congress candidate Nana Patole by 2,16,000 votes. The senior BJP leader is seeking a third consecutive term in the Lok Sabha and is now contesting against Congress candidate Vikas Thackeray.
