Nikki Haley was defeated by Trump in her hometown. Why is she still running?

Nikki Haley vows to stay in the race until at least Super Tuesday

Nikki Haley’s chances of winning the 2024 Republican presidential nomination are quickly disappearing.

Former US President Donald Trump easily won South Carolina, fired Nikki Haley and moved closer to the Republican nomination as he seeks re-election to the White House.

Haley, the popular South Carolina governor in the 2010s and the only woman running on the Republican ticket, hopes to exceed expectations in her home state.

Nikki Haley vows to stay in the race until at least Super Tuesday. “I am a woman of my word. I will not give up this fight when the majority of Americans disapprove of Donald Trump and Joe Biden.”

Next up – Super Tuesday

Nikki Haley’s official position, made clear just days before the primary, is that she will at least fully support Super Tuesday, March 5, when 16 states and territories will vote against Republicans Presidential nominations weighed.

Haley has less than a week to convince Republican voters that she is the best candidate to defeat Biden before Trump wins enough delegates to seal the nomination.

“Over the next 10 days, another 21 states and territories will have their say. They have the power to make a real choice, not a Soviet-style election with just one candidate,” said Nikki Haley.

Nikki Haley vows to keep fighting

Haley has repeatedly questioned the 77-year-old former president’s mental health and warned that a second term as president would bring “chaos.”

Her voters acknowledge she may not be the Republican nominee and are already planning what they might do in November.

Analysts say she is building her profile for a possible 2028 run and is ready to step in if legal or health issues lead to Trump, who faces four criminal indictments, withdrawing from the race.

There is widespread speculation that Trump could drop out of the presidential race if he is convicted in the cases, two of which are related to election tampering and the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol by his supporters. If that happens, Haley will become a focal point in the presidential battle.
