Washington:

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is the lone challenger to former President Donald Trump, although the Indian-American politician has so far placed third in two primaries and second, but she raised a whopping $16.5 million in January.

January’s $16.5 million included $11.7 million from grassroots supporters, with 69,274 new donors. This is Nikki Haley’s best month for fundraising, with more money raised than she has in the first, second and third quarters of 2023, a campaign press release said.

“While Donald Trump has spent $50 million in donations on his legal case, Nikki Haley has remained focused on talking to voters and saving our country,” said Nikki Haley’s national spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas said.

“Thousands of Americans are supporting Nikki’s campaign because they don’t want two grumpy old men and all their chaos, confusion and dissatisfaction,” Perez-Cubas said. “They want a strong, Conservative leaders come to save this country.”

Former two-term South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, 52, has refused to drop out of the 2024 White House race. The next primary primary is scheduled for later this month in her home state of South Carolina.

Since the Republican presidential race officially became a one-on-one showdown between her and Donald Trump, Haley’s campaign has received an outpouring of support from low-dollar grassroots donors across the country, the statement said.

The report said the flood of new donors is evidence of Nikki Haley’s staying power and growing support from the vast majority of Americans who don’t want a “Biden-Trump rematch.”

Axios, which first broke the news, said the massive fundraising is important because Haley’s campaign has enough money to keep her presidential bid alive despite calls from many leaders in her party to end the Republican primary.

According to Axios, Nikki Haley raised $17.3 million in the fourth quarter, which was more than double the $8.2 million she raised in the previous quarter, according to her public FEC filing.

According to the report, as of the end of 2023, Nikki Haley had $14 million in cash on hand. By comparison, Bernie Sanders had $18.1 million cash on hand during the 2020 campaign, while President Joe Biden had $8.9 million.

Nikki Haley was born Nimarata Nikki Randhawa in South Carolina to Sikh immigrants from Amritsar, Punjab.
