NIA, other central agencies go to Ahmedabad aircraft accident site to assist in investigation

Sources said on Friday that along with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), officials of other central agencies also visited the accident site of Ahmedabad Airport.

The agencies visited the spot after a tragic incident with the International Flight AI-171 bound to London on Thursday, crashed immediately after the horrific takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.

Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London carrying 242 passengers and crews crashed immediately after takeoff. No one else could be saved, stopping a miraculous survivor. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupni was one of the people killed in the accident. Air India has confirmed that 241 out of 242 people aboard the flight have died.

While the initial assessment indicated a mechanical failure as a possible cause, the presence of the NIA suggests that the government is not ruling any possibility until all the angles are thoroughly investigated.

Ministry of Civil Aviation, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and local police are already conducting parallel investigation.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft left at 1.38 pm on Thursday, a few minutes after the takeoff, it crashed at the hostel mess of the BJ Medical College, 5 km from Ahmedabad Airport, where more than 100 students were having lunch. A large -scale explosion brought down flames and thick smoke into the sky, which is visible from a distance.
