The Consulate General of India in New York said it was informed of a fire incident at a residential building in Jersey City, adding that Indian students and professionals living there were safe.
The Indian Consulate is in touch with Indian students and provides them with all assistance including accommodation and other important documents.
The statement from the Indian Consulate General in New York came after a fire broke out in the basement of a multifamily building in Jersey City and spread to the first and second floors, displacing more than a dozen people, mostly students. And then there’s Thursday’s rooftop.

Jersey City firefighters responding to the incident discovered that the fire had spread to the first and second floors, according to Jersey City spokesperson Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.
The fire caused damage to the roof of an adjacent building. The American Red Cross has provided assistance to 14 residents who suffered severe fire damage and total building damage. There were no reports of injuries to residents or firefighters.
