New Delhi/Patna, Oct 24 (IANS) In a confident statement amid the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare SP Singh Baghel has predicted a landslide victory for the NDA alliance.
Dismissing the opposition’s recent announcements on the Chief Minister’s post as mere political posturing, Union Minister Baghel on Thursday stressed on the grassroots level momentum in favor of the NDA alliance, inspired by welfare schemes and strong leadership.
Indian Bloc declared Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate while Vikassheel Insaan Party’s Mukesh Sahni as its deputy chief minister.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with IANS, Union Minister Baghel rejected India Bloc’s move to project potential CM and Deputy CM candidates.
He commented, “This may be news to you, but to us political people it is ordinary news.”
He said that given the internal dynamics within the opposition, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) remains the dominant force, with the Congress only following it.
Union Minister Baghel said, “RJD is a big party, Congress is its follower. If they had to announce CM and Deputy CM candidates before the elections, then it should have been announced by RJD, not Congress.”
The Union Minister also criticized the opposition’s approach towards leadership selection, especially its emphasis on caste affiliation.
He said such strategies create confusion among diverse communities.
He said, “Many castes were in confusion; if they singled out a person from one caste, they have harmed others.”
This, he said, is contrary to the broad, inclusive appeal of the NDA.
Entering the election atmosphere, Union Minister Baghel shared information about his recent tours across Bihar.
He attributed the positive response to the welfare policies of the Central Government, the charismatic personality of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the initiatives of the State Government.
He said, “I have also visited; The central government’s welfare policy, PM Modi’s personality and work, state policies, and the hard work of both parties – from booth-level workers to national presidents – the BJP-led NDA alliance will be victorious.”
According to Union Minister Baghel, a major factor is the strong support of women voters, who see Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as their top choice.
Crediting schemes like free ration, cleanliness drives and pensions for changing the daily lives of women in Bihar, she said, “Women voters prefer Nitish Kumar as the first choice in Bihar; he has done tremendous work. They have found that their lives have become easier through old age pension, toilets, kitchens, five kg food grains, so women understand that PM Modi has made their lives easier.”
On the decisions of the NDA’s own leadership, Union Minister Baghel urged the opposition to focus inwards.
Underscoring the alliance’s commitment to internal democracy over hasty estimates, he said, “They should think about their own house and put it in order; we will decide after a proper democratic process.”
As the voting dates approach, Baghel’s comments indicate high morale within the NDA camp.
The political scenario in Bihar is witnessing intense rivalry between the NDA and India Bloc alliances, so the Union Minister’s optimism can boost the alliance’s campaign.
