Navi mumbai Residents will soon be able to reach the financial capital using public transport services on the newly constructed Mumbai Cross Harbor Link (MTHL), the Municipal Transport (NMMT) announced.

“We plan to provide at least four services and two air-conditioned electric buses will cross the bridge,” NMMT manager Yogesh Kaduskar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

During its first operation, bus number 115 will transport passengers from Nerul to Mantralaya and also cover Kharkopar belt and Ulwe area.

This is an air-conditioned service that has been flying from Kharkopar to Mantralaya till now. “However, to cater to the demand of residents, the service will now depart from Nero via MTHL,” the report quoted an official as saying.

For the 52-km journey from Nerul to Mantralaya, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport Board has decided to maintain the fare at Rs 90.

Kaduskar said there will be no adjustment in fares and the management will charge the fares currently applicable in each AC bus.

However, it is unclear whether public transport services will have to pay the hefty tolls of private buses or if they will receive any concessions.

“I am happy to witness the launch of multiple public transport services in #AtalSetu! I have always emphasized that the real impact of infrastructure projects is felt when they benefit the common people of Mumbai. Thank you CM @mieknathshinde Ji for accepting my proposal,” Former Union minister Milind Deora, who recently joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, wrote on X on Tuesday.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL), also known as Atal Setu. Earlier, Milind Deora urged BEST to start bus services across MTHL.

In a letter to BEST managing director Vijay Singhal on January 5, Deora wrote: “I request you to prepare a plan for bus rapid transit routes using MTHL. Buses can run directly from CSMT station to Kharkopar station to ease commuters in Navi Mumbai The passengers can directly enter the center of Mumbai. I request you to coordinate with the MMRDA and Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) to plan a number of such routes and open these routes as soon as possible.”

Recently, it was reported that Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is finalizing the route of Mumbai’s first bus service through Atal Setu.
