A mysterious 10ft metal pillar has appeared on a Welsh hillside, leaving locals baffled.

The silver boulder was discovered by walkers on the cliffs of Hay-on-Wye near the town of Hay-on-Wye at the weekend.

In 2020, huge numbers of boulders appeared around the world, from the Isle of Wight to the deserts of Romania, California and Utah.

Conspiracy theorists speculate that aliens may be behind the structures – and some on social media have offered the same explanation for the structure in Wales.

No one has yet come forward to claim responsibility for the Welsh monolith, although an anonymous group called “The Most Famous Artists” credited the structures to the United States in 2020.

Richard Haynes, who spotted the mirrored object while running, told Wales Online: “I ran in the direction of the trigger point at Hay Bluff and then I looked to my right.

“I thought it looked a bit strange, maybe a science media study of rainwater harvesting.

“But then I realized it was too tall and weird. Then I walked over and it was at least 10 feet tall, triangular and definitely made of stainless steel.”

“It’s hollow and I imagine it’s very light. Light enough that two people could lift it and plant it in the ground.”

He said it looked as if someone had dug a large hole in the ground to support the pillars.

Mr Haines said he regularly walked the route and this was the first time he had seen the object.

The boulders are very similar to those in Stanley Kubrick’s film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
