Muslims object to worship at Shahi Idgah in Mathura

Prayagraj:

The Muslim side has opposed the plea for ‘Krishna Koop’ worship at the Shahi Idgah premises in Mathura and requested the Allahabad High Court not to pass an order regarding the application as the maintenance proceedings are still pending.

The Muslim side has challenged the maintenance suit seeking the “demolition” of the Shahi Idgah mosque, claiming that the mosque was built on the 13.37-acre land of the Katra Keshav Deo temple.

After hearing the opinions of both parties, the High Court set the next hearing date of the case as April 1.

On Wednesday, the Muslim side raised objections to Ashutosh Pandey’s application under Section 151 (inherent powers of the court) of the Civil Procedure Code.

In his plea, Mr. Pandey said that Hindu devotees perform “Basoda puja” every year at the “Krishna Koop” (well) of the Shahi Idgah complex, which is adjacent to the Krishna Janmabhoomi on the “Mata Sheetla Saptami” and the “Mata Sheetala Ashtami” temple.

The complaint states that this year “Mata Sheetla Saptami” falls on April 1 and “Mata Sheetla Ashtami” falls on April 2.

In his plea, Pandey said that in those days, ‘Bathoda Puja’ had to be performed by the complainants at Krishna Kup, but the accused prevented them from conducting the puja.

The Muslims, on their part, argued that no order on such an application was required to be passed before the hearing of maintainability proceedings.

The application was also opposed by Muslims, who said it was the property of a religious foundation and their defense was untenable.

In May last year, the high court had transferred around 15 cases related to the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah masjid dispute to itself.
