Murder investigation into woman found dead in car in east London

A murder investigation has been launched into the death of a woman who was found unconscious in a car in east London.

Police were called to Whiston Road in Hackney at around 6.45am on Saturday morning due to concerns for a woman’s welfare.

They found the woman unresponsive inside a car parked in an alley.

Police forced entry and then performed CPR until paramedics arrived. However, the woman, aged in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 20s, who police believe was known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said they believed they knew the woman’s identity and had informed her next of kin, but formal identification had not yet been carried out.

An autopsy will be performed.

The crime scene continued into the afternoon.
