Jorhat (Assam):

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday claimed that the Congress party’s poll manifesto is more suitable for elections in neighboring Pakistan than India.

The Congress party, on the other hand, said traitors like Mr. Sarma were unable to understand the secular and inclusive ethos of the great old party and claimed that its manifesto was aimed at safeguarding the interests of all sections of society.

Mr Sarma condemned the poll pledge document put forward by the opposition parties, claiming it was aimed at dividing society to come to power.

“This is appeasement politics and we condemn it. This manifesto gives the impression that it is not for elections in Bharat but for elections in Pakistan,” Mr Sarma told reporters on the sidelines of an election rally in Jorhat constituency .

Mr. Sarma insisted that no one in the country, whether Hindu or Muslim, wanted to revive triple talaq or support child marriage or polygamy.

“The mindset of the Congress is to divide society and come to power,” the BJP leader claimed.

On Friday, Congress issued a manifesto focusing on five “pillars of justice” and the 25 guarantees within them.

Right to apprenticeships, legal guarantee for MSP, passage of constitutional amendment to increase 50 per cent ceiling in reservation for SC, ST and OBC, national caste census and abolition of Agnipath scheme are among the promises made by the Congress in its resolution. Lok Sabha poll manifesto.

Mr Sarma claimed that the BJP had taken the form of “andolan”, a movement aimed at making the country a “vishwa guru” (world leader).

He also claimed that the saffron party and its allies will capture all 14 Lok Sabha in the state.

He said positive feedback had been received from Dhubri constituency where Sarma had earlier maintained that the candidate of the PPP-led alliance would not win.

Reacting to his remarks, Assam Congress spokesperson Bedabrata Bora claimed that traitors like Mr. Sarma would not be able to understand the secular and inclusive ethos of this ancient and great party.

“Sarma served in the Congress party for many years but he could not understand the main ethos of the party. That is why he joined the BJP. Even after serving in the BJP for some time, he still tried to defame the Congress party to prove his Loyalty to the saffron party,” Mr. Bora told news agency PTI.

The Congress leader maintained that the party’s manifesto was aimed at safeguarding the interests of all sections and refuted Sarma’s allegations.
