Mumbai:

The Mumbai civic body has set up cold storage rooms and provided heatstroke medicines at its medical facilities to cope with the hot summer, an official said on Friday.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said in a release that it has equipped 103 Hridaysmrat Balasaheb Thackeray ‘Aapla Davakhana’ (public dispensaries) with air conditioning.

“Fourteen large hospitals, general hospitals and medical colleges will each have two beds in cold rooms for the treatment of heat stroke patients. Medical staff and staff have received training on heat stroke control and prevention,” the press release said.

The civic body has issued guidelines to control and prevent heat stroke, it added.

“April and May are relatively hot, so people are prone to heat stroke. Civil society groups are focusing on raising awareness about preventive measures to avoid heat stroke,” the senior official said.
