Mumbai: A day after bulldozer action in Mira Road, 40 ‘illegal’ structures demolished in Mohammad Ali Road

A day after the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) used bulldozers to demolish ‘illegal’ construction at Hydari Chowk on Mira Road in Thane district, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday demolished around 40 shops on the Muslim-dominated Mohammed Ali Encroachment removed. Opposition reaction on demolition campaign in Mumbai

The Congress party has questioned the bulldozer action against a “particular community”, calling it “unconstitutional”.

Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe said, “Using bulldozers to take action against unauthorized constructions is not a constitutional method. Proper legal procedure for hearing and service of notice must be followed. One also wonders why such actions are always targeted at particular communities. This must be stopped.”

Samajwadi Party MLA from Bhiwandi Raees Shaikh said, “The government is doing all this because elections are coming. They target a particular community and think that by doing so they will be able to please another community. But they are wrong. This will really go against them. Maharashtra has been the land of saints.”
