Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon MS Dhoni looked back at the bygone years with an interesting cameo during IPL 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday. After Moeen Ali was dismissed in the 18th over, the former CSK captain came out to bat amid a raucous welcome from the home fans. Even though CSK was playing away from home, Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium was painted yellow as a large number of fans gathered to watch Dhoni’s brilliant cameo. Dhoni, who scored over 300 runs, scored 28 runs off just 9 balls, hitting two monstrous sixes and three fours.

The atmosphere in the stadium reached another level after Dhoni beat Yash Thakur with a height of 101.6 meters over the midwicket.

Dhoni’s cameo helped CSK come out firing in the last three innings, chasing the team to 176-6.

However, LSG achieved the target of 177 runs with skipper KL Rahul’s half-century to spare.

Rahul scored 82 runs off 53 balls in a 134-run partnership with Quinton de Kock, who hit five fours in 54 off 43 balls, Thus taking the game away from CSK.

In Rahul’s time at the crease, he hit nine fours and three sixes. He was eventually dismissed in the 18th inning.

Nicholas Pooran (23)’s last-gasp strike helped LSG secure victory and level eight points with CSK.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, reflecting on the defeat, said they conceded goals too often.

“We conceded goals frequently and were 10-15 behind,” Gaikwad said.

“It’s nice to be able to play with them again soon and I’ll be back with my homework.”

CSK got off to a tight start after being invited to bat first, losing Rachin Ravindra (0) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (17) in the powerplay.

Ajinkya Rahane, aided by Ravindra Jadeja (57 off 40 balls), looked to stabilize the side but managed a respectable 36 off 24 balls After scoring, he lost in the ninth round.
