Guna, October 29 (IANS) Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested nine people in connection with the murder of a farmer in Guna, Madhya Pradesh.
This incident of murder has given rise to high voltage political controversy in the state.
With the arrest of nine people on Wednesday, Guna Police has managed to arrest a total of 10 out of the 14 accused, including the main accused, former BJP leader Mahendra Singh Nagar.
Whereas on Tuesday, a few hours after the murder of farmer Ramswaroop Dhakad, an accused was arrested. Notably, 14 people have been booked under multiple sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), including murder.
A tractor-trolley and a Thar jeep used in the murder of farmer Ramswaroop Dhakad have also been recovered, a police officer told IANS. “The search for the remaining four accused is ongoing and they will be arrested as soon as possible,” a police officer said.
On Tuesday, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, along with Raghogarh MLA Jaivardhan Singh, who is also Guna district Congress president, met the family of the deceased and demanded death penalty for the accused involved in Dhakad’s murder.
Digvijay Singh has alleged that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has completely failed to maintain law and order. Villagers and family members told Singh that the family, accused of being involved in the farmer’s murder, had terrorized the entire area.
The Congress leader also said that Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who represents Guna Lok Sabha constituency, should also visit the village and see the “atmosphere of anarchy” prevailing in the area.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also reacted to the matter on Tuesday and said that he has directed the Guna district police to take strict action against those involved in the murder of the farmer.
According to a statement issued by MP BJP chief Hemant Khandelwal on Tuesday, the state BJP unit has already expelled Mahendra Singh Nagar from the post (block in-charge).
