Kolkata: Bidhannagar police on Monday said it has arrested a most wanted thug who committed fraud in 13 states. According to sources, the person, whose name has not been disclosed by the police, was arrested from Kerala last night after tracking his mobile tower location.

He is a resident of Bengaluru and was wanted by the police of 13 states. The police were searching for him for five years and searches were conducted in several states. However, every time the thug somehow managed to escape. He was mainly involved in financial fraud and fraud. The accused has been arrested by the special team of Bidhannagar Police from Kerala.

According to a senior officer of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, he used to roam around in different cities and rent a room in a hotel, where he befriended the guests staying at the hotel. He would then run away with that ‘friend’s’ credit card, debit card, money, mobile phone, laptop and other valuables.

Meanwhile, after committing financial fraud through these items, he would send the stolen electronic devices such as mobile phones and laptops to the ‘friend’s’ house by post.

He even returned the credit cards and debit cards to the rightful owner. Recently this fraudster had purchased 15 iPhones. After the arrest, the police recovered several Aadhaar cards, 40 SIM cards and several digital devices from the accused.

Police said, “We had formed a team to arrest one of the accused. A group was opened on WhatsApp and 24-hour surveillance was being done. After several attempts, he was arrested from Kerala last night. We are seeking his transit remand.”
