More than 140,000 bottles of cholesterol medicine are part of an increased recall

A major recall in thousands bottles The drug has been upgraded to a higher risk level.

In September, a US Food and Drug Administration enforcement report announced that Ascend Laboratories was remembering 141,984 bottles of the drug Atorvastatin Calcium tablets it is used for to reduce cholesterolThe recall is due to “failed dissolution specifications,” which occurs when a drug does not dissolve as expected during laboratory testing.

However, by October 10, the recall was declared Category II, which is a situation “in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the likelihood of serious adverse health consequences is very low,” For FDA.

The recall affects tablets that were distributed nationwide in 90-count, 500-count and 1,000-count bottles. The expiry date of the bottles is till February 2027.

When a drug’s dissolution fails, it means the drug may no longer be “available to be absorbed by the body,” according to the FDA.

However, no illnesses were reported.

Meanwhile, other drugs have been recalled this year. In June, Little Remedies Honey Cough Syrup was recalled due to the “presence” of Bacillus cereus, a type of bacteria. This can cause two types of foodborne illnesses, and cause “loss of shelf-stability”.,

The recalls describe symptoms associated with both foodborne illnesses. Nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps may occur one to six hours after eating contaminated food. Stomach cramps and diarrhea may occur 8 to 16 hours after exposure to the second disease.

The popular cough syrup was sold by retailers nationwide and online from December 14, 2022, to June 4, 2025. However, no serious adverse effects were reported due to the recall.
