As of November 30, 2025, there are 9,248 vacant posts in Delhi Police against the total sanctioned strength of 92,044 – that is, the total vacancy rate is about 10%, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in a written reply to a question.
Among the gazetted ranks, the ACP cadre shows the maximum vacancies, with 125 posts vacant out of the sanctioned strength of 346 – about 36%. This is followed by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP at the junior administrative grade, which has 15 vacancies against 54 sanctioned posts, or about 28%, and about 22% vacancies (13 out of 60) in the DCP/Additional DCP rank.
At the forefront of policing, the largest number of total vacancies are at the constable level. There are 4,591 vacant constable posts out of the sanctioned strength of 50,946, which is a decrease of about 9%. There are 3,057 vacancies for head constables out of 23,724 posts, or close to 13%.
There are 1,039 vacancies in the Sub-Inspector rank against 8,087 sanctioned posts (about 13%), while the vacancy rate for Inspectors is lower by about 7%, with 108 posts out of 1,453 vacant.
There are currently no vacancies for the senior most posts including Police Commissioner, Special Commissioner, Joint Commissioner and Additional Commissioner.
The minister said vacancies are a “dynamic process” arising from retirements, promotions and resignations, and are being filled on an ongoing basis through recruitment examinations, physical tests and medical check-ups.
