Muizzu attended the respected Majidhiyya School before studying for a junior design degree at London College. He encouraged his studies by obtaining a Ph.D. Structural Design from Leeds College.
Muizul started his political journey in 2012 by joining the Adhaalath Party (AP). Later, he served as accommodation and climate chaplain in the organizations of Presidents Wahid and Abdulla Yameen.
His focus is on mending the foundations, promoting projects such as the Sinamalé scaffolding to connect Male to the TWA terminal at Velana, the first of its kind in the Maldives. Under his leadership, Accommodation and Climate Services transformed into Accommodation and Foundation Services.
Muizou oversaw different activities, including the construction of ports, parks and streets, and proposed Male”s current clean-up strategy. After the competition in 2018, he switched to the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), becoming vice president and leading the decision-making department.
In 2019, he played a similar role in the PPM’s resistance. In 2021, Muizou impressed the world by winning the mayoral seat in Male, overcoming the decision of the Maldivian progressive candidate. It was Male”s most memorable direct political campaign for a city hall leader, with Muizou winning a five-year term.
Muizzu married Sajidha Mohamed on May 18, 2003 and they have three children. Muizzu also has a stepsister named Saudha, who is currently contesting as a PNC candidate in the Nilandhoo constituency.
