United States Washington:
A dog missing in California has been found more than 2,000 miles away in a Detroit suburb, sparking a dramatic reunion with his owner.
After a resident reported a stray dog in a Harper Woods neighborhood in western Michigan, police found the terrier mix named Mishka, who went missing last July, and took her to an animal shelter .
Staff at the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society (GPAAS) discovered she had a microchip that identified her owner who lived 2,343 miles away in San Diego, although it’s unclear how she traveled so far.
GPAAS said the owner, Mehrad Houman, and his family happened to be on vacation in the Midwestern city of Minneapolis when Mishka was found.
While the drive from Minneapolis to pick her up at the shelter was shorter than the drive from California, it still took 10 hours.
“This is the story Hollywood wants to tell,” GPAAS said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Photos and videos shared by the group showed Mishka, a scraggly white-coated puppy, wagging her tail as she was reunited with her owner.
“This is the happy ending we all want,” GPAAS wrote.
After undergoing a veterinary examination, Mishka will fly back to California with her family, the statement added.
