Microsoft duplicates Chrome tabs on Edge browser after Windows update: People don’t know why

Last updated: January 31, 2024 07:30 US Standard Time

Imagine that you mistakenly open the Edge browser on your PC and realize that all Chrome tabs are displayed on it. Yes, that’s exactly what some are reporting this week. According to reports, Microsoft harvested tabs from Chrome without users’ consent, even though users used Chrome as their default browser.

Edge is Microsoft’s web browser that replaced the well-known Internet Explorer. A new report claims that after some users updated to the latest Windows version, Edge copied Chrome tabs and opened them on the Edge browser.

Incidents like this don’t help Microsoft’s cause, as its browser has lagged behind Chrome in the browser market despite being well-equipped. Stealing tags from a browser is a major red flag in itself, and doing so after a random update is even more concerning.

Multiple users here have discussed this privacy issue, and we’re sure the company will look into the matter if it hasn’t already at the time of writing. Microsoft does not allow copying tabs unless the user wants to import tabs and other personal details from another browser.

To be honest, Edge is unlikely to become the default browser for a very small number of users, which explains its current market position. So, if you do install any new browser on your PC or mobile device, make sure not to check any questionable features that could inadvertently allow companies to access your data, like in this case, change your option Import the card into another browser.
