MG Comet EV: The main reason it’s changing urban mobility solutions

By | Published | No Comments

Ever since electrification started gaining popularity in India, top automakers have left no stone unturned to contribute to the segment. Whether it is by converting existing product lines into electric vehicles or launching new products, every initiative taken by brands is to ensure leadership in this vertical. As the market is dominated by electric SUVs and sedans, MG has strategized and launched a value-for-money product – Comet.

The mini electric SUV is priced starting at Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom). Later, the company slashed the price range, allowing interested customers to buy the car for just Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The strategy is adopted to attract more customers to buy electric cars because they say modern problems require modern solutions.

Initially, our idea for the car was quite risky as we were not sure whether an electric car would be able to fulfill its role in daily life. After testing in recent weeks, with total distances reaching 700km to 800km, our opinion has now completely changed. It makes us believe in the famous saying: “A small package can create a big bang.”

In this detailed article, we will share the practicality of the EV Comet and whether it is worth investing a lot of money.

design

Let’s start with style and design, an area the company has mastered. Equipped with all LED headlight setup, LED DRLs and front illuminated MG badge, complemented by an attached DRL light strip, it certainly makes it an eye-catching centerpiece on the road. We’re not even sure how many times we’ve received compliments on this futuristic electric car. From ‘Kitne Ki Hai’ to ‘Bhai Kya Cute Car Hai’, we are bombarded with flattering words from passers-by.

It is worth mentioning that the MG Comet has a stylish and modern design, making it a unique and fashionable urban transportation vehicle. With its compact size, it can maneuver easily in tight spots and provides a comfortable ride in busy cities.

Internal

The color combination of light gray and white blends perfectly to provide a premium feel from the inside. Despite its compact dimensions, the smartly managed Comet feels surprisingly spacious, all thanks to the BICO platform – “big inside, compact outside”.

In terms of seating arrangement, it is designed in such a way that five passengers can sit comfortably. However, the company claims it is a four-seater.

feature

Some notable features deserve special appreciation. The list includes power window operating buttons, a sleek 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by all the car’s connected technologies like wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-volt charging port, and more. The car also supports over 100 voice commands and offers seamless keyless entry.

Batteries and power supplies

Under the hood, the micro-SUV is powered by a 17.3kWh battery pack that unleashes 41.42bhp of maximum power and 110Nm of peak torque. The device has a maximum cruising range of about 230 kilometers on a single charge.

However, in the real world, customers can expect a maximum range of around 180km to 190km. Using the onboard 3.3kW charger, it takes 6 to 7 hours to get the battery to 100% charge.

this is how we feel

MG Comet EV is a completely practical sedan that can provide a comfortable driving experience in the city. The car deserves bonus points for its design and size, as it easily fits into tight parking lots and doesn’t require much space.

We think that for those looking for a compact electric vehicle for urban transportation solutions, the micro electric SUV is worth considering.
