A 31-year-old Mexican model, influencer and animal rights activist died unexpectedly from a blood clot after undergoing liposuction surgery. Elena Larrea died on March 19 from pulmonary thrombosis, also known as a pulmonary embolism, which causes blood clots to form in her lungs, according to a statement from the animal rescue service. It’s unclear what caused the blood clot to form, but it’s believed she died after liposuction surgery. Of note, one study showed that pulmonary embolism is also the leading cause of liposuction-related death.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Elena Larrea, President and Founder of Cuacolandia, is passing away. Unfortunately, she passed away yesterday (Tuesday, March 19, 2024) at 3:30 p.m. Passed away from pulmonary thrombosis due to blood clots in the lungs,” the social media statement read.
“We will remember and continue to work for all that he courageously promoted in this foundation.
