New Delhi:
In a major operation lasting two days, police have conducted raids in Pune and New Delhi and recovered 1,100 kg of banned drug Mephedrone (MD) – street name ‘Meow Meow’ – with an estimated street value of over Rs 2,500 crore.
According to the police, the operation began in Pune with the arrest of three drug smugglers, along with the seizure of 700 kg of Mephedrone. Subsequent interrogation of these individuals led to the seizure of an additional 400 kg of synthetic stimulants from warehouse-like structures in the Hauz Khas area of Delhi.
Another large consignment of mephedrone was stored in Pune, specifically in the Kurkumbh MIDC area.
The enormity of this drug bust marks it as the biggest ever drug bust by Pune Police in Maharashtra and one of the biggest drug busts in the country.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the contraband was being transported from units located at Kurkumbh MIDC to storage facilities in New Delhi. Police have arrested five people in connection with the operation, including three couriers and two others, who are currently being interrogated.
The arrested persons, described by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar as “courier boys”, have previous offenses registered against them.
Commissioner Kumar said the police are diligently investigating the case and are working closely with other agencies to eliminate possible links within the drug trade.
One of those detained in connection with the case is Anil Sable, who owns the Pune factory where the drugs were stored. Sable was caught in the morning from Dombivli in Thane, Maharashtra.
The police also suspect a possible link between the detained persons and notorious drug smuggler Lalit Patil. Investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of Patil’s involvement in the case.
