Memorial plaque on park bench pays tribute to cheating husband

A mysterious plaque paying tribute to a lost husband, father and “adulterer” has been found on a park bench in Bristol.

A commemorative plaque on a bench in Royal York Crescent has caused a stir among locals and reads: “To my lover/husband, father, adulterer”, followed by: “Yes Roger, I Know.”

The birth date engraved on it was June 9, 1969, while the death date was December 25, 2023 – last Christmas – leading residents to doubt its authenticity.

Resident Tachel Weaver-Tooley, whose apartment balcony overlooks the famous crescent, told the newspaper: “Revenge is a dish best served cold… and served on a yellow In a copper plate,” she said in the spring sunshine. “But look at the numbers in the date 69 69. Come on!”

Local detectives take on the task of finding the elusive “Roger,” assuming he actually exists. Kim Collins asked a local shoemaker about the origins of the plaque because they were the only business nearby that offered engraving services, she explained.

Jason Smith, who lived with Ms Collins, told protector The area attracted many eccentrics, including writers and artists.

Local Sue Wells said people had gathered to see the puzzling plaque and her husband Martin thought there was some truth behind the message.

He said: “If this is true, [his spouse] They lived with this for years and it was only when he died that they felt able to tell the truth…a very passive person. “

Social media users were also baffled by the mystery surrounding the plaque.

Local novelist Jill Mansell shared on nearby.”

She continued: “Just thought – maybe Roger is still alive and the date refers to the length of the marriage. Maybe he dumped her on Christmas Day. (God, I’m so smart. I should be a writer).”

Politician and author Heidi Stephens replied: “It’s the most Cliftonian revenge, isn’t it? So elegant and sophisticated, but also brutal.

“There are rumors that it was Banksy’s work, but I prefer to think there was someone else in Bristol who could have written such devastating, relentless satire.”
