US startup Cognition has launched the world’s first artificial intelligence software engineer.
Devin, Cognition’s AI software engineer, writes, debugs, and deploys code to create functioning websites and videos.
Devin is a software development assistant similar to Copilot, built by GitHub, Microsoft, and OpenAI, but like a next-level software development assistant.
This artificial intelligence software engineer has the ability to take a single command and turn it into a functioning website or software program.
Devin also identifies and corrects errors, reducing the time and effort required for troubleshooting.
Not only can Devin provide coding advice and automate some tasks, he can also take on and complete entire software projects himself.
It comes with its own command line, code editor, and browser, which helps it run independently
In the video, Cognition CEO Scott Wu demonstrates how Kevin works. As it works, Devin displays all the tasks it is performing and finds and fixes errors on its own while testing the code it is writing.
Today, we are pleased to introduce Devin, our first artificial intelligence software engineer.
Devin is the most advanced newcomer on the SWE-Bench coding benchmark, has successfully passed real engineering interviews at leading AI companies, and even completed real work on Upwork.

“Teaching AI to be a programmer is actually a very deep algorithmic problem that requires the system to make complex decisions and look several steps ahead to decide what route it should take,” Scott Wu told Bloomberg.
“It’s almost like the game we’ve been playing in our heads for years now has the opportunity to encode it into an artificial intelligence system,” he said.
