Little did Matthew McConaughey know that his famous “Okay, okay, okay” movie line would follow him until late in his career.

The 54-year-old first appeared in conversation 30 years ago when he played slacker David Wooderson in Richard Linklater’s 1993 comedy film “The Young and the Restless” used this sentence.

Now, the actor is opening up about how the quote impacted his “life.”

McConaughey said he “had no idea this quote would stay with me for the rest of my life.”

The actor also revealed that the line “Okay, okay” was actually improvised by him and was not included in the original script.

He added that the line simply “came out of my mouth in a scene that I wasn’t supposed to be in, that I never wrote.”

McConaughey said he heard the line after “starting to get a little nervous” about who his character would be, adding, “I started thinking, okay, who is my man? Who is Woodson?

The “True Detective” actor noted that saying “Okay, okay, okay” gave him a boost of verbal confidence when he tried to flirt with Ribisi’s character, who loves cars, rock music and marijuana.

“It’s three affirmations of what my character has because he’s going to get his fourth. It’s a kick-starter,” he said.

McConaughey told the outlet that he still loves the quote and has not lost any affection for it over the years.

“People ask me all the time, ‘Are you tired of what you were doing?’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, no,'” he said.

“Every time I hear that, I think, ‘Those were the first three words you said in a movie over 30 years ago.’ I take that as a compliment,” he added.
