Two people, including a 16-year-old boy, died and 13 others were injured in a mass shooting Things got out of control at a North Carolina Halloween party, police said.
Police were called to a house party at an address in the city of Maxton, about 30 miles southwest of Fayetteville, around 1:15 a.m. Saturday when they discovered multiple victims.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said about 150 people fled the party shortly before authorities arrived.
Deputies found the bodies of 16-year-old Nehemiah Locklear and 49-year-old Jesse Locklear Jr. at the scene, while 13 others, mostly in their late teens and early 20s, were seriously injured.
“This was yet another senseless act of gun violence that took the lives of two individuals and seriously injured several others,” Sheriff Bernice Wilkins said in a statement. statement,

Wilkins added, “What makes this even more disturbing is the involvement of teenagers at a large house party, with alcohol and guns.” “The dozens of videos posted from the party on multiple platforms simply show that regardless of age, alcohol and guns don’t mix.”
A flyer for the party circulated on social media advertised it as a Halloween party starting at 10 pm on Friday night, and told revelers to “Leave the drama, mom.”
A woman who said she was supposed to be at the party said her friends and her aunt were caught up in the shooting.
“I think I was at that party with my girls and having a good time. I had my dress ready and everything,” the woman wrote on Facebook.
She said she “woke up this morning” to find that someone she knew had been “murdered” and another had been “shot in the leg”.
No suspects were in custody as of Saturday evening.
“Those responsible for this reckless and heartless act must be held accountable,” Wilkins said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this tragic incident.”
