Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang and Ozzy Osbourne have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in a category that also includes folk rocker Dave Matthews Band and lead singer and guitarist Peter Frampton.
Alexis Kohner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton received Music Influence Awards, while the late Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield will receive music Excellence Award. Pioneer music executive Suzanne de Passe wins Ahmet Ertegun Award.
“Rock and roll is an ever-evolving mixture of sounds that has influenced culture and touched generations,” John Sykes, president of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement. “This diverse group of inductees all break the Music disorders have influenced countless artists who have followed in their footsteps.”
The induction ceremony will be held on October 19 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. It will stream live on Disney+, later on ABC, and on Hulu the next day.
Musical artists who were nominated this year but did not make the cut include Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, the late Sinead O’Connor, soul-pop Singer Sade, Britpoppers Oasis, hip-hop duo Eric B. & Rakim and alternative rocker Jane’s Addiction.
