Maruti Suzuki Fronx becomes one of fastest selling car in country

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) continues its journey in the Indian automobile market with the Fronx crossover SUV reaching a major milestone.

According to a report by Gaadiwaadi.com, the Fronx was launched in April 2023 and has achieved impressive sales of 100,000 units, making it one of the fastest-selling models in the country.

However, to further strengthen its market position, the Indian carmaker is considering a revamp of the Fronx model.

Sales Successes and Milestone Achievements:

The Fronx has quickly become a favorite among Indian car buyers, as evident from its strong sales figures.

Sales of this crossover SUV recently exceeded the 100,000 mark, solidifying its status as a popular choice in the domestic market.

The success of Maruti Suzuki Fronx can be attributed to its diverse powertrain options, which include a 1.2-litre K12C petrol engine, a dual-fuel CNG variant and a powerful 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.

Variants retuned for affordability:

Despite the success of the Fronx Turbo, it faced sales challenges due to its higher price than regular gasoline models.

The turbocharged engine is currently only available in mid-spec Delta+, Zeta and Alpha models, which also results in its higher pricing.

In response to market dynamics, Maruti Suzuki is currently considering a strategic revamp aimed at making the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine more affordable.

Market share analysis:

Currently, the 1.2-litre regular petrol engine accounts for the majority share in Fronx sales, followed by the dual-fuel CNG variant and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine accounting for 16 per cent and 7 per cent respectively.

The move to introduce a turbo engine from the entry-level Sigma model is expected to make the powerful 1.0-litre engine more accessible to a wider customer base, in line with Maruti Suzuki’s initial sales target of 25-30 per cent.

Customer needs and future prospects:

Customer demand has also led to consideration of the availability of the 1.2-litre K12C petrol engine in top specs (Zeta and Alpha).

It remains to be seen how Maruti Suzuki responds to these requests.

Notably, the turbocharged engines are manufactured in India and the company’s huge investment in localization highlights its commitment to reaping the benefits from this initial investment.
