New Delhi, October 23 (IANS) Congress on Thursday appointed youth leader Manish Sharma in-charge of the Indian Youth Congress with immediate effect.

An official statement in this regard has been issued by AICC General Secretary and Congress MP KC Venugopal.

Venugopal said, “The party appreciates the contribution of the outgoing in-charge Krishna Allavaru. A new chapter begins! Hearty congratulations to Manish Sharma ji on taking charge as the in-charge of the Indian Youth Congress. Deeply grateful to Shri Krishna Allavaru ji for his years of mentorship, guidance and commitment to the youth movement.”

Outgoing in-charge Krishna Allavaru is currently in-charge of party affairs in the state of Bihar, where elections are due soon.

Manish Sharma has a long association with the Congress party. For almost fourteen years he has been handling the internal election process of the party’s student wing, NSUI, and youth wing, Youth Congress.

Before joining active politics, Manish Sharma completed his engineering studies from Bhopal and also worked abroad for some time.

The name of Manish Sharma, a resident of Ashoknagar near Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, was considered by Rahul Gandhi for the post of NSUI president about eight years ago.

According to sources, during a NSUI meeting at that time, Rahul Gandhi had commented that he saw Mahatma Gandhi’s DNA in Manish. However, due to internal opposition Rahul could not appoint him to the post he wanted.

Now Manish Sharma has been appointed in-charge of Youth Congress in place of Krishna Allavaru, who is currently in-charge of Bihar.

Krishna was handling the responsibility of Youth Congress for about eight years. Even after becoming in-charge of Bihar, he continued to have the additional charge of Youth Congress.

Interestingly, the timing of the party’s announcement of relieving Krishna Allavaru of Youth Congress responsibilities amid the Bihar elections has attracted attention.
