New Delhi/Imphal, October 24 (IANS) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday approved the proposal of appointment of Ayangbam Okene Singh as the Chairman of the Scheduled Caste Department of Manipur Congress Committee with immediate effect.
All India Congress Committee general secretary KC Venugopal, in a statement, announced the appointment of social activist-turned-politician Ayyangbam Okene Singh.
Party sources in Imphal said Singh, 54, a Scheduled Caste leader, was earlier in the National People’s Party and had joined the Congress a few years ago.
As an NPP candidate he unsuccessfully contested the 2022 Manipur Assembly elections from Sekmai (SC) constituency and lost to BJP candidate Heikham Dingo Singh.
Meanwhile, Manipur Pradesh Congress President Keesham Meghchandra Singh on Friday said that the people of Manipur can clearly see – destruction is the opposite of black intelligence! (When destiny approaches, people start doing foolish things).
“When a government loses touch with the truth and the voice of the people, its end is certain. The BJP’s arrogance, injustice and divisive politics are leading them to their downfall. As a result, people are suffering unbearable pain and endless suffering. Communities that once lived together in peace are now divided by fear and distrust,” the Congress leader said in a statement.
He said the screams of mothers, the suffering of youth and the silence of those in power expose the tragic degradation of governance and humanity.
Congress MLA Singh said that now the time has come for the voice of the people to rise above the politics of hatred and restore peace, justice and normalcy on our land. He said the Congress Party stands firmly with the people of Manipur to heal their wounds, unite their hearts and rebuild a peaceful and dignified future for all.
The state Congress chief said the so-called double engine BJP government has completely failed in the construction and maintenance of Manipur’s lifeline roads and highways.
The condition of the national highways in the state is appalling, with no sign of repair, maintenance or improvement. The suffering of people traveling on these roads is unprecedented in the history of Manipur, he said.
