Reuben Amorim They say Manchester United The winner of last weekend’s match will have to be assessed Harry Maguire And mason mount before the collision with brighton,

The Red Devils welcome the Seagulls to Old Trafford on Saturday evening after securing back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since the Portuguese’s arrival last November.

Maguire’s late header sealed a memorable 2-1 win against arch-rivals Liverpool – their first Anfield win since 2016 – but the defender could miss United’s return to action.

The defender is dealing with a knock, as is midfielder Mount, who played the first 61 minutes last Sunday.

“The team is fine, we have some doubts,” said head coach Amorim.

“During the week we had a few issues with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount. Knocks but nothing serious. We’ll see tomorrow. Leach [Lisandro Martinez] Is outside. The rest are ready for the game.

“I think it’s going to be, as always, a very difficult game. Brighton are a team that is really fun to watch.

“They’re really good in the build-up, they’re really strong in terms of transitions in every aspect of the game. They’ve been performing well in set-pieces this season, so I think they’re a team that are really complete.

“We need to be really smart and approach that game with a real focus on everything we do because they are a very strong team.”

Maguire will be desperate to prove his fitness and retain his place after last weekend’s high performance at Liverpool.

The 32-year-old defender has been ridiculed in some circles since joining from Leicester for £80million in 2019, but he has made a number of important contributions along the way.

Maguire is attracting admiring glances with his deal expiring at the end of the season, but Amorim is focused on building momentum rather than the status of his contract.

“We’re really happy with Harry,” he said. “This is not the time to talk about that because it shows that we are thinking too far ahead.

“We’re really happy with Harry, he’s really important for us, but we need to focus on the next game.”

Amid the setbacks, Maguire has impressively overcome being stripped of the captaincy by former boss Eric ten Hag, who handed the reins to Bruno Fernandes two years ago.

The irrepressible playmaker is set to make an historic 300th appearance for United on Saturday and Amorim is full of praise for his compatriot.

“I think he’s a little different than I expected,” the Red Devils boss said. “Sometimes what you read about a player is not what it is.

“You can sense the frustration he feels sometimes, it’s because he wants to help teammates so much. Sometimes it’s not the best way, but he comes from a good place. You don’t know that when you’re not here.

“He wants responsibility all the time. The loss has hurt him a lot.”

“Every time we don’t win a game, you can feel he takes it personally, as you should as a captain. He’s a great leader, a great footballer.”
