A man wanted over the death of his girlfriend has been found dead in a caravan after being missing for almost six months.
Richard Scatchard, 70, died after an ambulance was called to Kelly Faiers’ home in Minehead on Sunday, October 15. Start fleeing.
Police quickly launched a murder investigation into the 61-year-old’s death, but despite a nationwide appeal to find Mr Scatchard and a £10,000 reward, the search for him has stalled.
But just after 2pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday April 4), a member of the public called Avon and Somerset Police to report a caravan near Cleeve Hill, Watchet A man’s body was found inside.
A spokesman said that while formal identification procedures had not yet been completed, police suspected the man was likely to be Mr Scatchard.
He is wanted on a prison recall and police want to speak to him as part of a murder investigation into Ms Firth’s death.
Detective Superintendent Gary Haskins, of the Major Crime Squad, said: “Kelly’s family have been informed of the latest developments and we will keep them and the family of Richard Scatcherd updated as the investigation progresses Update. Specialist Family Liaison Officers continue to provide support to Kelly’s family during this difficult time.
“A forensic autopsy will be carried out in due course but we believe the man’s death occurred a short time ago. Until this is completed we are treating the man’s death as unexplained, although we have not identified any suspicious circumstances at this time.
“We would like to thank those who responded to our calls for information over the past five and a half months and will continue to update the public as our investigation progresses.”
