Man shoots three people in California dentist's office, police chase begins

Polls show that a majority of Americans support stricter gun control in theory. (representative)

Angels:

Police launched a manhunt Thursday after a shooting at a dental clinic in El Cajon, California, left one person dead and two others injured, local media reported.

Police in the town about 20 miles (30 kilometers) from Santiago said on social media they were looking for an “armed and dangerous” 29-year-old suspect who fled the scene after the attack, which they described for “an active shooter incident.”

According to local TV station KUSI, the two injured were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

It was unclear whether the shooter knew the victim.

Gun violence is common in the United States, where there are more guns than people and about one-third of adults own a gun.

Polls show that a majority of Americans support tighter gun controls in theory, but a powerful gun lobby and mobilized voters behind the country’s strong gun-rights culture have repeatedly made it politically difficult for Congress to act.

On Wednesday, a divided U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments over the legality of “bump stocks,” simple devices that allow other semiautomatic guns to fire rapidly.

The case stems from the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. In October 2017, a man opened fire on a crowd attending an outdoor concert in Las Vegas, killing 58 people and injuring about 500 others.
