Mamata Banerjee, Yusuf Pathan among Trinamool's 40 star Lok Sabha poll contestants

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday announced its list of 40 star campaigners.

The list includes West Bengal Chief Minister and party leader Mamata Banerjee, Congress MP and party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, and )’s former cricketer and candidate Yusuf Pathan, among others.

The TMC had earlier on March 10 announced the list of 42 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.

Party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee announced the list, which includes former cricketer Yusuf Pathan from Berhampore and Bardhaman from Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, conveying the message of TMC’s dominance in Lok Sabha polls Kirti Azad.

Abhishek Banerjee will contest from Diamond Harbor. Mahua Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha during the winter session last year, has been issued a ticket from Krishna Nagar constituency.

Meanwhile, Mukut Mani Adhikari, who recently quit the BJP, has also bagged votes from the Ranaghat Lok Sabha seat.

Shatrughan Sinha will once again contest from Asansol, a seat he won earlier in the 2022 by-elections.

TMC has fielded Jagadish C Basuniya from Cooch Behar, Prakash Chik Baraik from Alipurduar, Nirmal Ch Roy from Jalpaiguri and Gopal Lama from Darjeeling.

Announcing its candidates, the Trinamool Congress said the ruling party in Bengal will stand with the common people as part of its commitment.

“Under the leadership of President @MamataOfficial, we are happy to announce the list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. We are unwavering in our commitment to stand with the common people against the deprivations of the central government. When it comes to confronting @BJP4India jomidars and responded in the language they understand best, twin flowers are the only option for people!” TMC posted on X.

Bengal will vote for 42 Lok Sabha members in all seven phases of the general election scheduled to begin on April 19 and end on June 1. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.

In the previous Lok Sabha polls, the TMC won 22 seats while the BJP unexpectedly won 18 seats.
