The Maharashtra government on Friday declared January 22 as a public holiday to mark the consecration of Lord Ram in Ayodhya.

What will remain closed?

  • All schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed on 22 January.
  • Central institutions, offices and industrial establishments will also remain closed.
  • Public sector banks and insurance companies in the state will also observe a half-day holiday till 2:30 pm.

The Center has already announced that there will be a half-day holiday for the Ram Temple ‘Pran Pratistha (consecration) ceremony in all its offices, institutions and industrial establishments across India.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government has also announced half a day for the consecration of Lord Ram in Ayodhya. According to the order issued by the General Administration Department, all government offices will remain closed till 2 pm on January 22.

Puducherry has also announced that January 22 will be a public holiday in the union territory. Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy said all offices, educational institutions and undertakings of the state government will remain closed on January 22.

Mauritius government gave special leave

In a significant move, the Mauritius government has decided to grant a special leave of two hours to public servants of Hindu religion to attend prayers on the occasion of the historic inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22.

“The Cabinet has agreed to grant a special holiday of two hours from 1400 hours on Monday, 22 January 2024 to public officials of Hindu religion, subject to exigencies of service, in view of the inauguration of the Ayodhya Ram Temple. India, which is a historic event as it marks the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya,” the Mauritius Cabinet led by Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth said in a statement.
