The ongoing investigation by the Maharashtra State Backward Classes Commission related to Maratha quota will be concluded by midnight on Friday and will not be extended, the MSBCC said. In a letter to all district collectors and municipal commissioners on Thursday, MSBCC said that the software (APK) used for this survey will be shut down at 2359 hours (11:59 pm) on Friday. There will be no adjournment of the investigation. Therefore, no such request should be made.
The relevant person in charge please inform all enumerators to complete the census work within the specified time tomorrow. The MSBCC added in its letter that the committee should be notified of the completion of the report by the submission of a certificate by 10am on February 3. The survey was conducted in support of the state government’s treatment petition in the Supreme Court related to the Maratha quota, which has been restored by activist Manoj Jarange. The SC on May 5, 2021, canceled reservation for the Maratha community in Maharashtra’s university admissions and employment, saying there were no special circumstances that could justify violation of the 50 per cent cap on overall reservation ratio.
The state government filed a review petition, which was also rejected. It then filed a curative petition. A curative petition is the last constitutional remedy open to the petitioner after the review petition has been dismissed.
