Macron made these remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the new Olympic Aquatics Center

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday he had no doubt Russia would maliciously target this summer’s Paris Olympics.
“I have no doubt, including in terms of information,” Macron said in response to a reporter’s question about whether he thought Russia would try to target the Olympics.
Macron’s comments, made at the inauguration of a new Olympic aquatics center in Paris, were his clearest acknowledgment yet of foreign threats to the security or success of the Games.
The Olympics will be held against a complex global backdrop, complicated by Russia’s war in Ukraine and Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
Macron has taken a tougher stance on Russia in the past few months, vowing that Moscow must be defeated and not ruling out the possibility of European troops one day traveling to Ukraine, although he has made clear that France has no intention of inciting hostilities against Russia.
His administration has also taken a tougher stance against Russian disinformation campaigns across Europe.
Earlier this week, Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne said France would propose EU-wide sanctions against those spreading disinformation, as Paris believes Russia is stepping up efforts to destabilize the bloc.
