Two military horses broke free from their handlers and galloped across the city in central London on Wednesday morning, injuring four people.

One of the horses was soaked in a blood-like substance which was red in colour. However, there was no immediate information from the authorities about what exactly was on the white animal and how the pair escaped.

As confirmed by London’s Metropolitan Police and the British Army, the horses were recovered from their handlers shortly after their escape.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said four people were taken to area hospitals after being injured in three separate incidents involving horses. CBS News,

Immediately after the first incident, paramedics arrived within five minutes. According to the spokesperson, in this incident a person was thrown from a horse near Buckingham Palace.

“A number of service horses became loose during a routine exercise this morning,” a British Army spokesperson said in a statement, which was emailed to news outlets.

“All horses have now been recovered and returned to camp. A number of staff and horses have been injured and are receiving appropriate medical attention,” the statement said.
