Re-polling began on Monday at 11 polling stations in the northeastern Manipur assembly constituency.

After violence broke out at these polling stations in Manipur on April 19, the Election Commission ordered a re-poll.

It was alleged that some miscreants opened fire at these polling stations and even destroyed EVMs during the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Friday.

Security has been beefed up at all polling stations to avoid any incident.

A local told ANI, “We have come to vote. Re-polling is underway. Security has been tightened.”

The voter turnout in Manipur was 69.18 per cent as of 7 pm on Friday.

Affected polling stations undergoing re-poll include Moirangkampu Sajeb High Primary School and S. Ibobi Primary School (East Wing) in Khurai constituency, 4 polling stations in Kshetrigao, 1 polling station in Thongju, 3 polling stations in Uripok and 1 polling station in Konthoujam.

Violence was reported at some polling stations in the conflict-torn state of Manipur, with some gangsters opening fire and even destroying polling stations.

In the violence on April 19, in which a civilian was reportedly injured after firing, clashes were reported at a polling station in Moirangkampu Sajeb Awang Leikai in Imphal, Manipur during voting for the Lok Sabha elections.

All the 32 Assembly constituencies of Inner Manipur Assembly constituencies and 15 Assembly constituencies of Outer Manipur (ST) Assembly constituencies voted for the Lok Sabha.

Polling for the remaining 13 segments in Outer Manipur will be held in the second phase on April 26.

Counting of votes will take place on June 4.
