Letter reveals haunting last words of death row inmate before lethal injection

The final words and last meal of a death row inmate have been disclosed following his execution last week.

Authorities report that Michael Tisius, 42, was executed at Missouri State Prison in the US and declared dead at 6.10pm on Tuesday, June 6.

The convict killed jailers Leon Egley and Jason Acton after serving a 30-day sentence for pawning a rented stereo system in 2000.

Tisius used his final words to repeatedly apologised for his crimes and said that he hoped to have “made things right”.

He said that despite his life coming to an end, he was “holding tightly to his faith” and that he “really did try to become a better man”.

A prison spokesperson revealed the convict’s choice of last meal, which consisted of two bacon cheeseburgers, curly fries, regular fries and a chocolate milkshake.

In his final statement, Tisius said: “I am holding tightly to my faith. It’s all I have to take with me.

“I am sorry it had to come to this in this way. I wish I could have made things right while I was still here. I really did try to become a better man.

“I really tried hard to give as much as I could to as many as I could. I tried to forgive others as I wish to be forgiven. And I pray that God will l forgive those who condemn me. Just as He forgave those who condemned Him.

“I am sorry. And not because I am at the end. But because I truly am sorry.

“And I need to say that I love you Truffle. Seacrest Out!”

On June 22, 2000, Tisius hatched a plan to break Vance out of prison once Tisius’s own sentence was complete, with Vance’s girlfriend also on board with the crime.

Their attempts failed, and after the botched prison break, the pair fled the scene but were arrested later that day in Wathena, Kansas, after their getaway car broke down.

Tisius confessed to his crimes and was sentenced to death.

After the conviction, Vance told authorities: “I manipulated Mike for my own benefit. He was just a kid. This is my fault. It only happened because of me.”

Tisius is the 12th person to be executed in the US this year and the third in Missouri.

The southern state of Texas has executed the most convicts this year, with four executions having been carried out so far in 2023.
